# Google Drops FAQs from Search

## Everything You Need to Know For Your SEO

As of May 7th 2026, [Google has removed FAQ ](http://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/faqpage#structured-data-type-definitions)rich results from search. That means the expandable FAQ dropdowns that used to appear under search listings are no longer being shown, Google Search Console will not support FAQ reporting and testing anymore, and API’s that use this feature will no longer be supported.

If your [SEO strategy](https://ravenized.com/winning-seo-strategy-for-roofers/) relied on the FAQ schema for a visibility boost, this change will have an impact, but it doesn’t mean that FAQ content is no longer valuable.

## What Changed with FAQ Schema?

Google no longer displays FAQ structured data as a special search feature. This includes:

- -No more FAQ dropdowns in search results
- -Removal of FAQ reports in –Google Search Console (June 2026)
- -Removal of FAQ validation in Rich Results Test
- -API support ending in August 2026

## Are FAQs Still Good for SEO?

FAQ’s are still a great [SEO ](https://ravenized.com/what-is-seo/)tool, but the strategy is different now. Previously, FAQ’s supported the different areas of search and where you were likely to show up through a more technical aspect.

Now, they will move under the umbrella of valuable content, rather than [SEO technical ](https://ravenized.com/5-types-of-seo/)work. FAQ’s feed human engagement and AI search results by answering long-tail search queries, giving you more topical authority, and giving well-structured answers. Essentially, they make helpful content more helpful. The more helpful you are, the more Google will play ball with you.

## Do FAQs Help with AI Search Results?

Yes. FAQ content is highly effective for AI-driven search.

Clear, direct answers are more likely to be used in Google AI Overviews, Voice Search, and AI-generated summaries.

Short, well-written answers make it easier for search engines to extract and display your content.

## How to Write FAQs for SEO in 2026

To get the most value from FAQs, focus on clarity and structure. Use tools like [Also Asked](https://alsoasked.com/) and [SEMRush](https://www.semrush.com/) to decide what people are actually searching and the questions they have. Make sure they make sense for you to answer, and then use these best practices:

- -Start with a direct answer in the first sentence
- -Keep answers between 40–80 words when possible
- -Use real customer questions and phrasing
- -Group related questions together
- -Avoid filler language or overly long explanations
- -Provide citations when possible
-

The goal is to make your content easy for both users and AI systems to understand.

## Should You Remove FAQ Schema?

No. There is no need to remove existing FAQ schema, but it should no longer be a priority.

Adding FAQ markup will not improve visibility in search results, so your focus should shift to content quality rather than structured data on that aspect.

## The Bottom Line

Google’s removal of FAQ rich results signals a shift away from visual search enhancements and toward content quality and AI-driven answers. This isn’t new; Google has been building the definition of helpful content for years.

FAQ sections are still valuable, but their role has changed.

Instead of helping you stand out visually in search results, they become another tool in your arsenal of good content.

Businesses that adapt their FAQ strategy for clarity and usefulness will continue to see strong SEO performance.
