Local Services Ads Are Moving Into Google Ads: What Local Businesses Need to Know
Google is bringing Google Local Services Ads (GLSA) into the Google Ads platform, with a phased rollout beginning in August 2026. If pay-per-lead advertising is part of your strategy (and in most cases it should be), this is all of the information you need to know during the migration
First, the Things that Aren’t Changing…
All the stuff you love about Google Local Service Ads (formerly Google Guarantee) is coming along for the ride.
- You still pay only for valid leads such as phone calls and messages. This is not a switch to pay-per-click.
- Your ads keep appearing in the same positions on Google Search and Google Maps.
- There is still no keyword bidding. Your ads are based on the service categories and service areas you already selected.
But There are Some Changes You Need to Know…
As the GLSA stand-alone platform retires, your campaign becomes a specialized Performance Max campaign built for pay-per-lead goals. You will be managing it inside Google Ads rather than in the separate Local Services Ads dashboard.
What this looks like:
- Bidding: Manual bidding and vertical-level Target CPA are being retired. If you ran different targets for separate verticals, Google will calculate one campaign-level Target CPA for all of them. If you want separate bidding for plumbing versus HVAC, you would build a separate campaign for each.
- Budgets: Your weekly budget shifts to Google Ads daily spend functionality. Monthly spend stays capped at that daily average multiplied by 30.4, so your overall investment holds.
- Callouts: Better Business Bureau callouts are going away. Head to your assets tab and select at least six other structured callouts such as business hours, specialties, or accepted payment methods.
- Google Business Profile: Your business name, address, and hours now sync one direction from your profile into Google Ads. Major edits to your name or address trigger a verification review that typically takes 24 to 48 hours and may pause your campaign briefly.
When are Local Service Ads Moving to Google Ads?
August 2026 covers select U.S. home and storefront service advertisers, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliance repair, house cleaning, lawn care, roofing, pest control, and moving. Then in Late 2026, this expands to service-area businesses and accounts with custom bidding or booking setups. In 2027, non-U.S. accounts and all remaining categories transition.
What To Do Right Now
- Download your historical performance reports. They will not carry over, and the old dashboard closes the moment your account migrates.
- Confirm the administrator email on your profile. Your 14-day notice, 7-day reminder, and completion confirmation all go there.
- Plan for a short ramp-up. Allow up to two weeks after migration for performance to stabilize.
A Note On Verification
Your verified status and Google Verified badge transfer automatically, and license or insurance reverification is no longer required. Once you are inside Google Ads, you will find your lead inbox under Goals, then Conversions, then Leads, with the same charged status, lead types, feedback form, and CRM export you use today.
